Creative Duality

by Jamisha R.

Creative Duality by JAMDED Magazine reflects and emphasizes creative patience, block, transition, and even imposter syndrome in the creative field. As creatives it is easy to feel as though we must highlight one of our talents above the other or make that our main “focus”.There is this internal frustration of not knowing what to label ourselves as or how to introduce ourselves. It is difficult to prioritize one of our aspirations over the others. We get impatient at not being able to perfect all aspirations at once.

Inspired by Halloween, this concept explores the idea of feeling you aren’t expressing who you truly are while only pursuing one of your many aspirations. It’s almost as if you were wearing a costume. It is easy to feel as though you are pretending to be someone else when toning down parts of you. Here we see Zion Lewis an artists of many mediums photographed balancing just two of his aspirations; one as a creative director and the other as a model. He is being photographed by photographer, Konfused, and is directing photographer Jan Chrisaan who is shooting our model, Fanta. Throughout the progression of the carousel we are able to see how both these aspirations come together. We firstly see Zion in his model element being photographed by Konfused. He later goes over a concept/mood board with Jan who will be shooting Fanta. During some of the middle shots we see Zion juggling and being split between both his model and creative director role at once. At the end of carousel we are able to see both aspirations come together as everyone sits to review each project.

JAMDED Magazine is here to tell and remind you all to take your time. Even though at the moment you may only be focusing or utilizing one specific skill or talent, you are more than that one thing. Your creative aspirations don’t have to be a phase or overlooked. You can be everything, just be you.
